Listening - allowing - unfolding - celebrating - offering

Everyone can dance regardless age, sex, size, flexibility…!

Offering a space to explore our own unique movement, improvisation and contact with others… Together we create the freedom and possibility to simply be in the stillness of the moment and allowing each person to be spontaneously moved by an inner pull; the music or perhaps inspired by a movement of another body. Dancing a wave, discovering on our own and as a group. Moving towards an empowered, radiating stillness.

Dariya who has been living and growing in Auroville for the past 27 years, enjoys holding space for individuals and groups to explore and expand on land and in the water. She has trained in variety of body-mind-spirit modalities.

Hatha Yoga

is a comprehensive study of asanas (postures) and pranayama (breath control).
We will begin by breathing exercises (pranayama) and go on standing positions to warm the body. After we go on working deeply the flexibility and the purification of the body   by the sitting positions. In my class I keep attention on breathing and awareness of the body through asanas. The alignment is not the priority but the awareness of the body and breathing are the priority.
Slowly I will adapt to your abilities and your own difficulties and help each one of you to progress in the yoga.
Why dynamic: we will keep a kind of fluidity during standing asanas  to help the mind to stay concentrate and later to go more inside (development of concentration) and develop your abilities to feel your body and be aware of your breath.

Women pregnant until 7 month can follow my class if there are active. Persons with back pain, sciatic are welcome to join and it will help them.

There are two levels:
Beginners: for whom who have almost never practice Yoga, who have physical problems and for pregnant women.
Mixed: for whom who have already practice Yoga and know the asanas.

Ashtanga  Yoga

All students commence their instruction in the same manner in which on the first day of class they are taught Surya Namaskar A, followed by Padmasana and deep breathing, and a few minutes of rest to conclude their first day of practice. The next day after Surya Namaskar A has been performed, Surya Namaskar B is taught, and one then again concludes in the same method as the previous day, with Padmasana, deep breathing, and rest. After both of the Surya Namaskar have been learned correctly, each of the various asanas are added one by one. When one asana is correct, the next one is taught. Depending on the age and ability of the student, it can take anywhere upwards of 3 months to learn the primary series.

From Monday to Friday: the format of the practice always remains the same; one always begins practice on his own with Surya Namaskar, concludes with Padmasana and rest, and the various asanas gradually fill the space between these two poles It is through the daily practice of Ashtanga Yoga that we draw it into ourselves, understand it.
On Saturdays, group guided classes are taught, in which all the vinyasas are counted out loud and all students follow along together accordingly

"The practice guides the student to a tension-free state of radiant health achieved  through the postures (Asanas), breathing (Pranayama), Meditation (Dhyana), Concentration (Dharana), activation of the energetic centers (Chakras), and Relaxation techniques.

As a result, the flow of Prana (Vital Life Force) is unblocked

throughout the Nadis (energy meridians). Balance is restored in the physical, mental, emotional, intuitive and psychic being.

Through constant practice contentment (santōṣḥ), ecuanimity (śamatha), conscious health, connection and well-being will be established in daily life"

Andres began to receive teachings of yoga since youth. What is mindfulness? And how can Yoga help us understand both the concept of mindfulness and its application? This intensive draws on traditional foundations of yoga, where the unity of mind and body results in a meditative state. While the physical aspects have been well researched, here we look more at the mind, and learn how mindfulness can make it our best friend.

Bijou began exploring Yoga in 2014, far away from civilization in the Amazon jungle. This calling led to deeper research into the ancient art, including certification in 2015 (300 hr. Yoga Vidya Gurukul, Nasik). After initiations in Buddhist Meditation, Bijou found a way to incorporate Mindfulness and Yoga. His experience working with people recovering from trauma and substance abuse has enhanced his teaching, which focuses on the meditative and therapeutic aspects of Yoga.

Moving images from the archives project from old televisions in an immersive dark room. The recorded memories become meditative taking us beyond the action apparent on screen, deeper into the recesses of consciousness with which the actions were committed. It is an attempt to remember those times, the momentum and the labour of love that went into making Auroville what it is today. A projection of Auroville's continuous journey, towards becoming.

Richa Hushing and Rrivu Laha are documentary filmmakers, newcomers in Auroville. They were instantly drawn to the wealth of recorded memories from the formative years; and took upon themselves the task of drawing out the stunning visuals records for all to see and experience Auroville as it was, in the making.

Special Thanks to the installation team: Dhriti, Mridul, Bharat, Leo, Allen, Emmanuel, Krishna, Raj, Isabelle, Alok, Tapas and Michael.

GLORIA – SERVING THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE MATRIMANDIR

an Interview of Gloria Cicionesi by Francois Gautier and Rakhal.

From childhood on Gloria was interested in architecture and went on to study Architecture at the University of Florence, Italy. There she met Piero, who studied also architecture and shared her interest in Zen-Buddhism. Later Gloria went to Paris, France and then along with Piero went to Finland to study advanced architecture under the great master Alvar Aalto. After three years they returned to Italy to work there. But they were disturbed by the amount of corruption involved in architectural work in Italy and thought of going back to Finland. Then by chance they got to know about the Ashram and Sri Aurobindo’s philosophy and the interesting project to build a city in South India; that was in 1966. When they wrote to the Ashram, The Mother wrote back ‘come immediately’.

So they came with their child Martha to Auroville and lived in Promesse. For Aspiration Piero designed the keet-huts, and later the first permanent dwelling in Auroville for Frederick and his family, named by The Mother ‘Auroson’s Home’, around which grew up the community of Certitude, also mostly designed by Piero and Gloria. Gloria worked mainly on the finishing parts such as doors, windows, kitchen, bathroom, floor etc. Apart from these constructions Piero was deeply involved in the building of Matrimandir and especially in creating the Inner Chamber according to Mother’s vision. The Mother’s vision of the Inner Chamber with the ray of the sun on the globe guided him through all the work. Piero and Gloria always discussed and shared their efforts about the work for Matrimandir. Piero prepared all the calculations and drawings (by hand in the days before computers) and Gloria worked on site to ensure that the measurements were accurately implemented by the workers. Over the years, Gloria met the Mother regularly and developed a deep and loving relationship with her and faith in the Divine work. Duration: 63min.

Mere entertainment or an art of living, this tool makes one blossom at every contact. In this circle of joy where each one encounters his difficulties, we laugh at the vagaries of life without worrying ourselves with what comes next. At times flexible, at times less so, the player juggles with his abilities, never quite revealing them, using 'malicia' and guided by his most childlike perception.

Restorative Yoga classes are relaxing and slow paced; a whole session may consist of as few as five or six postures that are held for long periods of time. Props (including bolsters, blankets, blocks, and belts) are often used to allow the body to be in the most comfortable, supported position possible. Gentle music and guided meditation enhance the calming effects.

Restorative Yoga is known for its relaxing and healing effects. It has its roots in the yoga of B.K.S. Iyengar, who developed it to help students practice without any strain or pain. This was further expanded into a whole system of yoga which is considered ideal for those recovering from injuries or illnesses.

Restorative yoga stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which slows the heart rate, regulates the blood pressure and relaxes the body, and is therefore considered particularly beneficial for those suffering from stress-related conditions (including anxiety, insomnia or headaches). Restorative Yoga is also believed to boost the immune system and accelerate the body s natural healing process.

In 1961 the Mother gave the adesh to Narad to bring down a new music. She said that one must go far above words and bring down the pure Music. Mother told us to sit in a circle and have no preconceptions as to what we would sing but to be silent and let the music descend in us. The OM Choir aspires to bring down the New Music for the New World in a collective body. We sing only OM, the creative and effectuating Word, after starting with warming-up and voice exercises given by Narad.

The wisdom about the body's energy lines– SEN lines (Thai) or Nadis (Sanskrit) – is one of the most important and fundamental pillars in both Yoga and Thai Yoga Massage. The meridians are energetic pathways, giving life to the body. When the energy doesn’t flow appropriately, discomfort and disease often appear.

In this workshop, you will learn the origins of this ancient knowledge and practical application through Yoga postures (Asanas), to enjoy a life with better energy flow.

Once the mind is slowed down, we chant the maha mantra "Hare Rama Hare Krishna"  or similar and then express the inner joy in form of natural body movements focusing entirely on the present moment. In the end, we ground the energy using proven guided relaxation technique of auto suggestion called Yoga Nidra or Yogic Sleep.

Solitude Farm
09:30 AM

Dear Friends,

This is a closer look at Solitude farm through exploration of local food. This "Mini-Permaculture Workshop" will give you a clear insight on how to re-connect with Mother Nature through the principles of natural farming and permaculture. Includes harvesting and the secrets of our salads (mini-cooking workshop). Held every Wednesday, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, with lunch and refreshments at 12:30 pm.

Contribution – Rps. 800.

To sign up, please contact Krishna: call 984 331 2960, email krishnamckenzie@auroville.org.in, or come to Solitude Farm Cafe.

Solitude was started in 1996 by a group of young Aurovillians. One of them, Krishna Mckenzie, inspired by Masanobu Fukuoka developed the farm with the ideas of Natural farming and permaculture.

Much like the rest of Auroville, the land needed tending and care. Fukuoka advocated that all the bio-resources around us, such as leaves, weeds, branches, etc., should constantly be returned to the soil to increase soil fertility. We have come to understand, over the years, that a healthy soil is Mother Earth, and through a deepening of our relationship with Her, we now use over 130 different plants in the food we serve at the café.

No pesticides or fertilizers have ever been used on the land. We practice non-tillage and no machines or tractors are used. Every part of this land is honored and respected.

Solitude Farm is a true example of Masanobu Fukuoka’s philosophy in practice – a road back to nature through eating local food.

Tantsu grew out of Watsu and brings the unconditional holding of Watsu back to land. It offers a deep state of listening and creates an unconditional union of breath-connection and presence.

During the first four days, you will be exposed to the basics of Tantsu: cradling someone in a comfortable hold, which gives access to a deep level of stillness and relaxation. The micro-movements that appear will guide stretches and rotations of shoulders, arms, hips and legs, thereby releasing blockages in the energy flow.

The following two days will take you deeper into body-listening and exploration of various body movements; you will also gain knowledge about meridians, hara, and the intricate connection between mind and body.

No previous experience required!

Do you find it a challenge to maintain peaceful breathing during yoga practice? If so, there is a need to explore the relationship between breath and flow. In this intensive, you will learn to understand this relationship, so there is no struggle with breath, and your yoga sessions will leave you rejuvenated, with abundant energy to take you through the day.

Open Heart Space Meditation is a simple practice of becoming aware of the reality as it is without judgement, interpretation or reaction, and settling into its vast luminous expanse. We learn to embrace and let go each experience as it arises and subsides. Eventually the mind falls silent and sinks into the open heart-space, a doorway to unity-consciousness, where the inner and outer worlds meet and merge.

Along with meditation, there will be some mantra chanting, yoga, interactive dialogue, and whatever arises in the moment.

Samrat grew up in the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry. He studied upto graduation in the Ashram School/College called Sri Aurobindo International Center of Education and also studied Sri Aurobindo’s philosophy. He has practiced meditation for the past 30 years. Offered meditation classes in Europe for the past 2 months.

With deep gratitude and respect she shares the primary series teachings as she has been taught by Monica Marinoni and Sri Sharath Jois.

Hatha Yoga

is a comprehensive study of asanas (postures) and pranayama (breath control).
Why dynamic: we will keep a kind of fluidity during standing asanas  to help the mind to stay concentrate and later to go more inside (development of concentration) and develop

In the yogic tradition Bhakti, or surrendering to divine consciousness, is considered to be the easiest of the 4 paths of yoga. For most of us, especially beginners, it may be difficult to meditate just by focusing on breath. Singing mantras (devotional chants), however, is a tool that many people find helps to quiet the mind more easily, and brings a sense of unconditional “inner-self love"! This intensive ends with a guidance in "Yoga Nidra" or yogic sleep, a proven method for achieving deep, trance-like self-relaxation.

Nikhil Thapar is a certified Yoga teacher from Sivananda 200 RYS, madhurai, india and trained hatha yoga teacher. He have been conducting Yoga & Meditation sessions (hatha yoga, laughter yoga, music meditations, chantings, pranayama etc) in Europe - Poland (krakow), Bulgaria(sofia, plovidv and varna), the Netherlands (utrecht), Thailand & Russia) for last 2 years & earlier in Dharamshala, bhagsu, India for about 5 years, both drop-ins and also been assisting in the 200 RYS Yoga Alliance Teacher Training Programs (creating new Yoga Teachers) with Bhagsu Yoga Institute, headed by Om Shankar Yogi. Currently living nearby Auroville.

Solitude Farm
11:30 AM

Dear Friends,

Join us every Friday from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm as we explore Solitude farm and the three steps on our road back to Nature. Experience the farm with Krishna as your guide as he shares his understanding of 25 years having started Solitude Farm and studying with Masanobu Fukuoka.

For more information, please contact Krishna - 984 331 2960 & krishnamckenzie@auroville.org.in

-----

These Hatha Yoga sessions harken back to the roots of the classical form of Yoga, intended for the unity of body and mind. Hatha Yoga is often seen as the yoga of balance and posture, but this specific style is aimed at bringing the body-mind into a focused, calm and composed state, further helping in meditation.

The Feldenkrais Method cultivates awareness through movement. Inspired by animals and human infants, we experiment with different movement possibilities and learn about patterns of holding, discovering how to move in a skillful and efficient way. Dr. Feldenkrais designed the lessons “to turn the impossible into the possible, the difficult into the easy and the easy into the pleasant”.

Nur Bar-On has been practicing the Feldenkrais Method since 2010 and became a certified teacher after 3 years of study (2015-18). She has taught in Israel, Germany and Portugal, and likes to assist others in discovering more skillful ways of being in their bodies.

These Hatha Yoga sessions harken back to the roots of the classical form of Yoga, intended for the unity of body and mind. Hatha Yoga is often seen as the yoga of balance and posture, but this specific style is aimed at bringing the body-mind into a focused, calm and composed state, further helping in meditation

The term ‘rib cage’ may give the impression of something closed, lacking the ability to breathe. But as toddlers, before we learned to walk on two legs, we knew how flexible this part of our body really is, and how pleasurable it is to breathe deeply when the ribs are soft and pliable. Crawling or walking on “all fours" gives the ribs a reminder of this softness, while standing on two feet can diminish this feeling. In this intensive, we will remind ourselves how to roll and breathe like we did when we were toddlers!
